Hello,

I run f22 workstation. After dnf install wine I still can't run my window7 .exe program. When I do so I get the following info: fixme:winediag:start_process Wine Staging 1.7.49 is a testing version containing experimental patches. fixme:winediag:start_process Please report bugs at http://bugs.wine-staging.com (instead of winehq.org ). err:module:load_builtin_dll failed to load .so lib for builtin L"WSOCK32.dll": /lib/wine/wsock32.dll.so: file too short

and in my /lib/wine/ I find so many empty files: -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 wsock32.dll.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 wtsapi32.dll.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 wuapi.dll.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 wuaueng.dll.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 wusa.exe.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 x3daudio1_1.dll.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 x3daudio1_2.dll.so -rwxr-xr-x. 1 root root 0 Aug 15 07:26 x3daudio1_3.dll.so

What can i do to fix this problem?

By all means, do so. It's possible that re-installing Wine would work, but there's no way that you could be responsible for a file being too short!

So I really wouldn't recommend wine for almost anything. You will never know if there is a legitimate bug.

There could be a bug with:

  • The actual program
  • Your specific version of wine
  • The compatibility library you are using.

The real problem with Wine is the limited support that the community can offer you. You usually rely on a developer being interested in running your specific program. There have been success stories in using Wine, I believe many indie games are ported to Linux using wine. In those cases, the developers have financial motivation to porting their games with wine.

Please consider using a Virtual Machine or remote desktop to an actual Windows computer and save yourself the hours of trouble in using Wine.
