Today i tried to upgrade my fedora 17 system to fedora 18 rawhide using Preupgrade. but Preupgrade doesn't show me the possible options to upgrade to. (i.e, fedora rawhide). Follwing is the session dump of it's cli counterpart:

# preupgrade-cli

Loaded plugins: blacklist, langpacks, whiteout Loaded plugins: auto-update-debuginfo, langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit, remove-with-leaves, rpm-warm-cache please give a release to try to pre-upgrade to valid entries include:

Can anyone help me with this.

Upgrades are changing a lot with Fedora 18. The old upgrade methods of using the DVD or preupgrade are no longer supported and will not work. The currently recommended upgrade method is FedUp, which is new for Fedora 18. For beta, only the CLI client is completed but we expect to have a GUI client in time for the release of Fedora 18 final.

Current documentation on how to use FedUp and some FAQs is available on the wiki.

If you hit issues with either upgrades or the documentation, please let someone know (probably me) either here, via email (my username at or via IRC in #fedora-qa on Freenode (please direct IRC messages to me, though or I might miss them) .

This is mostly a copy-paste from another question - the answer is mostly the same and I want to cover at least some of the common F17 -> F18 upgrade questions

@FranciscoD_ I have installed Rawhide before using Yum. I wanted to use Preupgrade for this time. I followed the steps given on and but it failed as i said it previously. I even googled for the problem, but i couldn't solved it.

Hi there. I was searching the Fedora Wiki about Preupgrade. As it turns out Fedora 18 will not be supporting preupgrade as it is Outdated and a new tool is in development. Currently the only way is directly through yum. Please read the wiki for more information. Have a nice day. ;)
