I don't have enough room on the original LVM to install Fedora 16 or 17. I have about 20 gig free on another partition that I use in XP of of 45 gig total on /dev/sda5. Using the partitioning software that comes with the Fedora install routine, if I resize the XP partition down and then try to increase the size of the LVM (Linux LVM 0x8e, /dev/sda8) it will not accept the changes. I do not want to lose my XP partitions so I figure I would try this forum for help rather than trying something risky. Thanks in advance for any help.

The partition manager that comes with the installer actually does work, but not obvious. First, as the comment above says, I resized the XP partition and booted to Windows to let Windows adjust it's data for the new size. then, going back into the install program, choosing "use existing Linux..." worked - althoguh it does not say this, it uses the extra free space as well as the old Lunux & linux swap partitions.
