Hello, I am admittedly very new to linux having only played with Ubuntu up to this point. In trying to get away from Windows and find a speedier OS, I thought xfce would be worth looking at. I made the bootable cd for Fedora 16, and ran the installation routine to a partitioned part of my hard drive. It seemed to finish okay, but when I boot Fedora from the HD now, it does the filling icon in the middle of the screen (progress indicator), but finishes to a black screen. The mouse pointer is there, and I can move it around...but that is as far as it goes. Again, I am a newbie to linux, so please forgive my yet limited knowledge. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I got the same issue and the solution for me was easy as cake! Just turn on the tv! My tv is pluged in as a second screen and somehow the signal was sent to the tv as primary monitor!
