Fedora Server 22 crashes after trying to install Gnome gui

I just installed Fedora Server 22 (Web Server package) and tried to install Gnome GUI since the web server install does not include it. After running"dnf install gnome-shell" and rebooting, my server crashes during boot up. I'm stuck. Should I reinstall Fedora and not choose the web server package? I need to make this a LAMP server to run Omeka. Thanks!

You should installed like

sudo dnf group install "Fedora Workstation"

That will install Gnome Gui and GDM.

Since you mention it crash but do not mention what error or give an screen shot to show the error so we can try to help. Have to assume you can login as root on shell so you can do that install. But live to see the real error.

Of course you can install workstation and then install LAMP like

sudo dnf group install "Web Server"

Thank you for your reply. My server crashes - freezes - while loading the OS after a reboot/shutdown, and there is nothing I can do except force a hard shutdown via the power button. I think I may have to reinstall Fedora and either just install as regular Fedora Server, and add the Web Server later (as you described above) or perhaps try installing as Workstation. Any recommended course of action?

Well, if you want to used as a server why do you need the GUI in first place? (curiosity here). You can install Workstation and install web server as needed. If that is going to be a real server will say do not use GUI else do workstation.

I am new to Fedora, and Linux Servers (I usually use Linux Mint for my desktops) so I was looking for the comfort of the graphical interface, but I understand your point.

You can run a GUI desktop on a server, how ever you will be waisting around 300M of RAM only by running the GUI, if you are new to Linux or want a GUI use something like xfce or lxde so you use less resources. But if you want to learn stick with no GUI and ask questions and read with short time you will be answering and managing your servers like a pro.
