Hi, I upgraded to Fedora 22 and have no sound since. I have hardware (as per lspci| greo -i audio) but no devices for pulseaudio or for alsa resulting in silence. How may I configure the system to get sound back. The result of alsa-info.sh is available at the address hereunder.

Thanks for your help in solving this. Patrick.

I had the same issue after the upgrade. I also have a Gigabyte motherboard. Before the upgrade, I had the nomodeset kernel boot parameter because I have the RPM Fusion NVIDIA drivers.

After the update, the parameter disappeared and I had no sound. Adding the parameter to the default list and rebooting brought back the sound.

I don't know why but it worked. It's worth a shot.

Sorry, the nomodeset boot option did not do anything. Looking at dmesg it seems the card is disabled by avahi. Anyone had any luck on this count ?

Hi, I just noticed when failing to boot into kernel 4.0.5 that /proc/devices was now populated with the sound cards. This data is absent in the 4.0.4_301 kernel I'm currently running (no /dev/snd). Unfortunately nvidia is now failing to load and I cannot start X to test easily. When testing with aplay or amixer there is an error relating to pulseaudio.

Hi, in kernel 4.0.5 and in 4.0.6 X fails with a fatal error as modprobe does not find the nvidia module. It is there in / usr/lib/nvidia and in / usr/lib64/nvidia as well as a link in / usr/lib64/xorg/modules/ as a nvidia... directory. Also in the drivers directory there is a module nvidia_drv.so

Anyone have any idea why this X configuration fails?
The same configuration in kernel 4.0.4 works fine (but does not have sound).

What does systemctl status say? Any failed units?

Hi, OK it's a bit lame opening and closing one's own question. Nevertheless, the solution was to wait for the new kernels (4.0.6 and higher) and there the issue of the HDA intel card was resolved without any intervention on my part. With regard to the nvidia issue, it is unrelated to the sound issue so I opened another thread (also solved now). So all is well again. Thanks to all for the help provided.

๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜† This fix is famous. Too bad it seldom works consistently in any OS. Cannot wait for Windows 10 with all it's new problems to go public! I need work!
