I'm running 3.1.1-2.fc16.x86_64 with KDE, but I'm interested in trying Xfce. I see Xfce in the repos when I do a yum search, but there's no single installer. I have to install all the components individually.

Isn't there some way I can get everything out of a single installation?

Hey!

You can make use of the software groups that we define. Please have a look at the "group commands" section of the yum manual page.

I don't recall the name of the LXDE group off hand, please try the following:

$ yum grouplist

Get the name of the LXDE group name from the output. Then run:

$ yum groupinstall "<groupname>"

to install LXDE on your system.

The request is about Xfce here :). Just to add that we could use groupinstall or "install @<group>"

  • We should never highlight the "-y" flag.
  • "sudo" is not useful as you already are root, see the "#" at your prompt. BTW, sudo is not set by default

This method is the same as what I've listed. It's another, more convenient syntax. Please do read the man page though :)

@asto simply that giving people the habits to use -y will let them use this one while removing software… Too bad when you get Xorg or rpm as a dependence… "-y" exists, and I use it ;). Better to find it on the man.
