I have been trying to create a Minecraft launcher as described [here] ( ) and it hasn't worked. I can run minecraft fine with the command java -Xmx1024M -Xms512M -jar /home/username/.minecraft/minecraft.jar but I can't create a launcher using alacarte. It will not let me click on the "ok" button.

I have the same problem in Fedora 22. There's an open bug for it:

One option might be to create the item and use something simple as the executable (like /bin/sh) and then cd into .local/share/applications/. Look for a file called alacarte-made-###.desktop and edit it. If you've made a bunch of .desktop files with alacarte, you might want to use grep to look for the one you made. Open up that file, adjust the Exec line and you should be on your way.

You may need to restart gnome-shell to pick up the change you made. If so, press Alt-F2, type r, and press enter. Then try selecting your Minecraft menu item again.

I installed java-1.8.0-openjdk and alacarte, downloaded Minecraft.jar to ~/bin, and created the following script (I'm omitting optirun assuming you're not using an optimus laptop).

$ gedit ~/bin/
java -jar /home/bthomas/bin/Minecraft.jar
$ chmod 744

Then I created the menu entry from alacarte using an icon I found from the internet.
