I have read the wiki https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Unifie... but I have a question.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad z510 coming with Windows 8.1 preinstalled.

How can I back up my current windows so that if anything goes wrong I don't damage my licensed windows?

I have Fedora on another computer so I can use Linux utilities.

Well, backup depend on you manufacture normally they have a method to do a backup for those partitions, another way will be if you can another disk is to use dd tool to create a backup.

But in your case get into windows defrag the hard drive, shrink you windows partition and then you will have a space to install Fedora, you can run Fedora from it, and in any case you can always boot from windows.

Lenovo provides one key recovery but that does/cannot work after deleting recovery partition. I want a solution which can backup to external hdd and recover exactly like that

In that case us dd to backup all your drive to another drive.

But dd backups unused blocks as well, I have only 1TB external HDD containing data and my internal HDD is also 1TB. Other tools?
