I installed fedora server 21 this morning after a few failed attempts at using the same of the Ubuntu variety. Seems that's been the case for me a lot lately. Fedora is winning in my book.

Anyhow Server is set up on an old PC I had lying around that I plan on running headless once I get everything working I have transmissions daemon installed but no idea how to use it. Or to enable the web ui for instance once I had that I'd be set.

This is the main purpose of the box so for now I'd just like some pointers on how I can get it running plus trans web ui is by far the nicest and has a lot of remote apps on android

Thank you

You can install transmission-daemon by issuing following command

yum install transmission-daemon -y

After that you can start it by this command:

systemctl start transmission-daemon.service

and/or enable it on startup with:

systemctl enable transmission-daemon.service

To use it from other computers on the network you may need to stop service and edit the following file:

/var/lib/transmission/.config/transmission-daemon/settings.json

It is required to stop daemon first and than edit this file, otherwise it will overwrite it on restart. Options that need to be changed are:

"rpc-whitelist": "127.0.0.1,192.168.*.*",

And to access it from your local network you will also need to open up port "9091" and you can do that with:

firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=9091/tcp
firewall-cmd --reload

After that you just visit xx.xx.xx.xx:9091 (where xx.xx.xx.xx is IP address of that machine) and everything should work.
