How to set up dual AMD graphics with open source drivers?

So, I have a laptop with two AMD graphics cards - one integrated, one not. Naturally I'd like to use the more powerful one to run games and graphically intensive programs. I've heard of something called vgaswitcheroo, so I've tried doing that, but it doesn't seem to be working:

# cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:01.0
1:DIS: :DynOff:0000:01:00.0
# echo ON > /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswithceroo/switch
# cat /sys/kernel/debug/vgaswitcheroo/switch
0:IGD:+:Pwr:0000:00:01.0
1:DIS: :DynOff:0000:01:00.0

I'm using the open source drivers as I can't install the AMD proprietary drivers - the patch doesn't work for me. Does anyone have any idea how to make at least some applications run with the discreet graphics card?

Hello, I may not be of much help but when searching for it - use Hybrid in your queries instead of Dual graphics. Also I'd advise you to get acquainted with Bubmlebee which is the implementation for nVidia(basically bbswitch switches the gpu - on/off like vgaswitcheroo and when you want to run programs on the discrete GPU - a new X server is started, and the video outputs are passed to your primary X server via a bridge - virtualgl, etc. Look up primus too. ) So even if you enable your AMD gpu - without such functionality, you will only be able to do OpenCL calculations with it.

In a shell : DRI_PRIME=1 yourprogram will force to use discret card instead of the integrated.

Hey, this actually worked. And apparently it works for all programs that the program calls, so I can use it with Steam and the Minecraft launcher. I wonder if there's a way to invoke the xorg server with that. Thank you! :)
