I have an HP Laptop with windows 7 on it... It was brought to the geeks to be fixed three times to no avail then given to me. It's a nice machine.. Just loaded with viruses. I spent 5 hours yesterday hunting virus after virus... Self-replicating google chrome among many others...

I would like to wipe everything and install Fedora.

Can I use the infected machine to DL Fedora? Will Fedora wipe all the old files?

Thanks friends

Sure.

First of all, download the fedora image;

Then burn the iso on a dvd or even in USB;

Remember, get a backup of yours important stuffs before starts the installation.

And finally, the installation process is really easy, most of stuffs are automated, but the installation guide provides all the information you need to install.

There is nothing on the machine worth keeping.. Just to be clear, do I need to delete anything before installation-- or will Fedora do it all for me?

You have to do it manually:

  1. System> Installation Destination;
  2. Select the disk to be used and mark the "I will configure partitioning" and then click Done;
  3. Delete all existing partitions and create partitions automatically by clicking "Click here to create Them automatically" and then click Done;
  4. Finally, accept the changes and continue the installation.

If you install Fedora over existing partitions it will clean everything and will not have any virus. You can download the ISO from the machine and burn it. If you have another way of doing it will be best.

So it will remove everything and I will only have Linux/Fedora?
