I have a Lenovo G505 laptop running the latest 64 bit version of Fedora and WiFi is not working.

The WiFi network appears under Windows 8.1, but only wired Ethernet works under Fedora.

Hi, probably your laptop misses some firmware. Please open a terminal and post the output of lspci -nn | grep Network.

Hello,

I was facing the same problem with my HP Pavilion dv2918tx Entertainment Series Laptop (with Broadcom 4312 Wifi chip). Heres what I did to fix it:

Install the rpm packages by running this command:

su -c 'rpm -Uvh
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm
http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm'

If the above doesn't work, then run these two commands individually in the terminal after 'sudo'-ing :

rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm

rpm -Uvh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm

Once that is finished, update yum using

yum update

and install the kmod wireless driver package using

yum install kmod-wl

Restart your fedora to the first option listed in grub which says Fedora 21, not the one with 'linux' ( I still couldnot figure out why this driver doesnot run in the 'with linux' )

And voila, you should be able to see the Wifi listed in the network manager. If still it doesnot, then install one more package called ndiswrapper using

yum install ndiswrapper

This should work now.

If it doesnot go to http://www.broadcom.com/support/802.1... to download the 32 bit or 64 bit drivers and then follow the instructions given in Readme.txt ( Navigate to the section using search string 'HOW TO INSTALL A PRE-COMPILED DRIVER' ). You could do this in the beginning itself without installing the package, but its always preferred to install it through yum without going through the hassle of compiling the driver and the installing it and stuff.

Hope this helps

Regards

Vikram

What is your question?

Windows 8.1 appears WiFi network(without hardware) -- without means you do not have hardware. Are you saying you do not have wifi hardware on your Lenove G505?

With Fedora, you mean Fedora 21? You mean Fedora 21 works with an ethernet cable?

specs on G505 say: 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 (Optional) 10/100 Mbps LAN http://shop.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/lenovo/g-series/g505/#tab-tech_specs Perhaps you are saying that WiFi works with Windows but does not work with Fedora.

Windows 8.1 appears WiFi network, Fedora 21 works with an ethernet cable, without WiFi network in Lenove G505, this is a real question, I wait again for your answer, thanks a lot...
