I am trying to install and run VMware Player 7 on Fedora workstation 21. I have 'successfully' installed VMware, however, I get the following error pop up when I attempt to start VMware:

Before you can run VMware, several modules must be complied and loaded into the running kernel. Kernel headers for version 3.17.8-300.fc21.x86_64 were not found. If you installed them in a non-default path you can specify the path below.

yum indicates the kernel headers are installed. I can not locate them. Would you please suggest a location where the kernel headers are located?

If you have the correct versions of everything you have to login as root and perform

yum update kernel

Then after that is complete you must restart your host machine. I was having the same problems as you and it worked for me after I did this.

Make sure you have the 3.17.8-300.fc21.x86_64 headers instead the i386 ones. It will also require the kernel-devel package and a gcc compiler to complete the task.

Thank you cristianox. I installed gcc prior to receiving the pop up window for the headers. I will work on insuring the 64b headers are installed today.
