I have an Sony VAIO model:SVE14126PLB , recently i installed Fedora 21 with KDE, so far all the hardware work OK, except for the Ethernet Card which doesn't detect Link.

$ ethtool p2p1 .... Link detected: no $

The card is detected as "RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller" , ,using the r8169 driver which comes with the kernel, i have tried to:

-- Disable the Autonegotiation , doesn't work Use the Realtek r8168 Driver , didn't load because isn't a signed module.

Any ideas of how to make it work?

Regards

Pablo

I have had similar issues,

It used to come up fine after fedora 20, but it started doing it again recently I had to use ethtool -s p2p1 speed 100 duplex full, then ifup p2p1 would dhcp then

Recently i try again with the ethtool and now it worked, but with some minor changes:

With the cable unplugged

ethtool -s p2p1 speed 100 duplex half autonegotiation off

And then plug the cable, then dhcp will work. Also the sysadmin told me that the reported MAC address at the Windows DHCP Server is very weird , like a 30 chars long , but i got my IP and can comunicate :)

I could not get it to work with ethtool or r8168. I had to disable DHCP and gave the interface a static IP. Now it works with r8169
