I am running Fedora 21 Workstation. I installed it from a USB media yesterday.

Usually, I have seen that the updates are immediately available on such instals. But, there is no notification for update in this instalation.

The 'Software' application has no settings, etc. for checking for updates daily/ weekly, etc. But there is an 'Update' tab. And it says 'Software is up to date. Last checked: 09:15'.

But yum check-updates shows a large list!

Is not the update process automatic? Do I need to 'manually' check for updates?

GNOME Software will prompt you for updates automatically. However the frequency of the checks are much less often by design (to avoid annoying users, overloading the servers and reduce the amount of bandwidth used) compared to running yum update manually on the command line.
