i agree with you it's a pity, fedora could benefit from it , mostly for corporate/university/school deployment.

i see a link too with lennart plan for systemd

i did some tests this summer, the most simple solution is to use nbd(cow)+ipxe(http) then you can use diskless computer ( arm or nuc )

it should work too with nfs ( did not work for me without hacking dracut )
it should work too with iscsi (did not test )

if finally overlayfs will be merge in linux 3.18 it will be much more easier to work with local cache storage and readonly root.

After using for a while Linux Ubuntu, Mint and openSUSE. It's a shame that when more accurate Fedora support for this is horrible in some ways I feel a little forced to move Linux to lack of interest in these projects. I think back to the openSUSE since Fedora does not care about that anymore.

I see in k12linux.org this pharagraph:

Modern users probably do not want to use this type of thin client because video (like Youtube) requires too much bandwidth over remote X desktops, and scalability of X over ssh encrypted tunnels is rather poor. K12Linux is considered a legacy solution for existing deployments of LTSP-type networks and is currently supported only on the legacy EPEL6 platform. Porting to more modern systemd-based Fedora and EPEL7 is technically possible but is not considered a priority given the drawbacks of the legacy LTSP solution.
