I've seen pictures of Fed20 with application icons on the desktop, how do I save the application icons on the desktop to be there when I start-up, so I don't have to go to the Activities tab for each thing I want to open...? The normal "right-click" doesn't seem to do anything..... (yes, new user)

How you do that depends, in part, on what Desktop Environment you're using. Judging by what you've written, you're using Gnome, as that's the default. Please edit your question to specify this, or add a comment below mine (not an answer) giving this information. And, before I forget, welcome to ask.fedora!

Welcome to fedora. Assuming you are using gnome, first you need to install gnome tweak tool by the following command:

sudo yum install gnome-tweak-tool

Then open the gnome tweak tool and in the Desktop tab, turn on Icons on Desktop. Finally copy the desktop file of the application you like from /usr/share/applications to your desktop. ;)
