When i open software center no apps are being displayed. I tried re-installing it but no use. Someone told me to try pkcon refresh. I got the following result:

<pre< p=""> </pre<>

ADITYA@localhost ~$ sudo pkcon refresh'

Failed to contact PackageKit: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.PackageKit: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.TimedOut: Activation of org.freedesktop.PackageKit timed out

Reboot your system and see if that works. Please edit your question to include the version of gnome-software that you're using.

check if packagekit service is active with this command systemctl status packagekit.service -l, if it isn't active check if this solution works

Sometimes a bug in gnome-software can cause it to lose track of its metadata. Try forcibly killing the backend daemon with the command

killall gnome-software

then try starting gnome-software again.

Nevertheless, the better way to update/install/remove packages is to use your favourite emulator of terminal or true terminal (for your choice). Sorry for my IMHO.
