When I use the gnome-tweak-tool to look at the extensions installed there are a few which have a ! next to them which do not appear to be either installed or removable.

The fedmsg plugin is one of these, which I've reinstalled, removed etc etc but it still shows up in the extensions listing (I came across this problem when trying to figure out why fedmsg wasn't on my desktop)

How do you convince Gnome that these are not installed anymore?

Most of the time when you see ! for any gnome extension then that mean it is not compatible with running gnome-shell version. So you need to go to that particular extension directory and modify the metadata.json to include the version of currently running gnome-shell. Then restart gnome session and you can see those gnome shell extensions are working.

When you remove any gnome-shell-extension and restart the gnome-session then you will not see that removed extension in gnome-tweak-tool.

so its not stuck just restart the gnome session and it will be gone.
