For the purpose testing the comps validity, I want to view the repomd.xml where the comps files are listed. Please help me to locate the repomd.xml and xmllint comps.xml in my system.

Repodata and comps aren't the same. Repodata is generated by createrepo while comps provides information on the package groups. This wiki page describes comps: http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_use_and_edit_comps.xml_for_package_groups

xmllint is a tool to check xml files for correct format and structure. man xmllint for more.
