Note: I'm very new to Linux, and more precisely, Fedora, so I'm quite unfamiliar with how everything works.

I just installed some updates, and now empathy crashes immediately when I try to start it up. I could use some help resolving this issue, so any advice would be appreciated. I'm not totally helpless, and I'm certainly not afraid to get my hands dirty; in fact, I'm rather looking forward to it.

  • Can anyone guide me to some steps for troubleshooting?

Go into a terminal and type:

strace empathy|fpaste

Post the link.

Confirmed! I have also the same issue, and it seems that it is a bug in zeitgeist package.

Crashes are bugs, so you should search for them in reported bugs, and if not found report a bug about it.

Update: As a workaround until the bug is fixed you can downgrade zeitgeist-libs package to version 0.9.14-3.fc20:

yum downgrade zeitgeist-libs

This worked for me. Thanks, I was looking for a while.
