I'm running Fedora Core I have a external hard drive(which I never mentioned with the previous questions). My question is during my computer shutdown I'm getting "Buffer I/O error sda 1 on logical block". This is a error message in my best description.

Please run a file system check. It could be a hardware error. Please edit your question to tell us what version of Fedora you're using and the exact installation configuration that it's deployed on.

Also please add the output of dmesg | grep -i "I/O error" after booting your OS and working with it for a while.

Also an mcelog might help (dmesg|grep mce). Thanks!

It's Fedora Core 2 How do you run the filesystem check? How do pull up your exact installation configuration? I'll add the output, thank you

Fedora Core 2 reached its End of Life over a decade ago and has been completely unsupported ever since, including by this site. Right now, the only two versions of Fedora that are supported are versions 19 and 20. The only suggestion I can give you is to back up any files you need, reformat and install a supported version because there have been so many changes over the years that upgrading would be difficult if not impossible.
