I installed steam recently on Fedora 20 using these instructions:

sudo curl http://spot.fedorapeople.org/steam/steam.repo -o /etc/yum.repos.d/steam.repo
yum install steam

I think that messed up yum because when I try to install software with yum now I get this error:

yum install gcc
Loaded plugins: langpacks, refresh-packagekit

File contains no section headers.
file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-steam.repo, line: 1

Also, if you visit the page, you will see there is no Fedora 20 version available: http://spot.fedorapeople.org/steam/ . So, as @cobra said, best is to use the RPM Fusion repository.

You have an error in your steam repo file, probably caused by extra information being grabbed by that 'curl' command. I thought Steam was now available in the rpmfusion repository now.

If you remove that repo file you created (/etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-steam.repo) and follow the instructions from rpmfusion site (follow the link) to install the free and non-free repositories, you should be able to do the yum install steam thing again, and still have access to all your software through yum in the normal way..

I downloaded and installed RPMFusion, but I can't enable it. I get to this step:

To enable access to both the free and the nonfree repository use the following command:

Fedora 14 to the most current: su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

When I enter that command I get the same error I had before: File contains no section headers. file: file://///etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-steam.repo, line: 1 '--2014-05-19 16:54:27-- http://spot.fedorapeople.org/steam/steam.repo\n'

You have not removed the corrupted steam repository file. Do this as root:

mv /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-steam.repo /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora-steam.repo.disabled

Then retry the installation of the RPM fusion repositories.
