is there a desktop widget which will rotate the desktop 90 degrees with a single click, then rotate again(or back) with another click?

preferably for KDE

at the moment, I have a flatscreen monitor on an arm - if I want to view a PDF of an A4 sheet, rather than the landscape desktop, i have to go via F>applications> settings>display to rotate the display. would like to do it in one click...

thanks

There is a tiny application that is usable for monitor settings and can handle monitor rotation in openbox and in xfce too. Sadly doesn't jump in what was the name that I have used a lot... but when I have it I will answer it to you here. One thing is sure, the another package were the dualscreen-mouse-utils.... ummm.... gotcha - it's called arandr - and you can set rotation in the alignment part. Oh, TW - kde version from this app is called kRandr. HTH.

In MATE there is a little try icon we can use, you need to enable it in the "Monitor preference" windows.

But i prefer to use the command line tool xrandr and assign hotkeys to my predefined screen setups

e.g

xrandr --output DP1 --off --output VGA1 --mode 1920x1080
-- or --
xrandr --output LVDS --auto --rotate normal --pos 0x0 --output VGA --auto --rotate left --right-of LVDS

See xrandr man page for more info about the tool
