Does anyone know, if there is any progress with the trackpoint + middle button scrolling? Same for the fingerprint reader. It's so annoying to use a touchpad :/

TrackPoint scrolling doesn't work out of box, but you can easily fix it by yourself. All you need is:

1) Add psmouse.proto=bare option to you kernel during boot

  • Open /etc/default/grub
  • Modify the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX option (e.g. GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="psmouse.proto=bare ....)
  • As a root run grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg

2) Create /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/11-trackpoint-wheel-emulation.conf

Section "InputClass"
    Identifier      "Trackpoint Wheel Emulation"
    MatchProduct    "PS/2 Generic Mouse"
    MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
    Option          "EmulateWheel" "true"
    Option          "EmulateWheelButton" "2"
    Option          "EmulateWheelTimeout" "200"
    Option          "YAxisMapping" "4 5"
    Option          "XAxisMapping" "6 7"
EndSection

3) Reboot

First of all: THANKS!!!!

It works like charm! But I still have one problem: i lost some of the touchpad features. I can't use two finger tap for a right mouse click and can't scroll with two fingers on the touchpad. I tried to add 'VertTwoFingerScroll "on"' in 50-synaptics.conf and this does not work. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I just installed F21 yesterday on my brand new X240 and it works like a charm.

According to the method "Add psmouse.proto=bare option to you kernel during boot", the trackpoint works well in the "Gnome" mode, however, it dos not work in the "Gnome in wayland" mode. How can I fix this problem?

I've got some trouble getting the psmouse.proto=bare to be recognized probably. After adding it to my GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX and a reboot my F21 won't start because it's not happy finding it's LVMs, after a few minutes of searching it's throwing me at the rescue prompt and asking me what to do. What am I doing wrong?

My /etc/default/grub prior adding the psmouse-stuff:

GRUB_TIMEOUT=3
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR="$(sed 's, release .*$,,g' /etc/system-release)"
GRUB_DEFAULT=saved
GRUB_DISABLE_SUBMENU=true
GRUB_TERMINAL_OUTPUT="console"
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="rd.lvm.lv=fedora/swap rd.lvm.lv=fedora/root rhgb quiet"
GRUB_DISABLE_RECOVERY="true"

Makes no difference if it's added at first the CMDLINE or as last parameter.

The different way I've approached to get the damn trackpoint-scrolling working was to compile the patch from the AUR-Arch-guy for the xorg-input, but i couldn't figure out some dependencies.

Even in Fedora 21 it does not work :/ Every 2014 Thinkpad uses the new clickpad and the new Fingeprintreader and no progress with these issues. Multitouch-gestrures are now supported but only for Touchscreens. Really annoying...

EDIT: The scrolling now works. Solution as described above. Still remains the fingerprint reader...
