Why does Fedora log out my user account after starting 3D games with wine?

After starting Steam or other 3D games with wine my user account gets kicked and Fedora returns to the KDM start screen.

I thought it is a SELinux problem. But after disabling SELinux the problem was still the same.

Is this problem already known? Is there possibly a problem with the nvidia 304xx driver and wine?

Thanks.

It seems like an OpenGL issue. Is the nvidia 3D layer installed correctly? I vaguely remember it needing both the 32 and 64 bit versions installing or it never worked right (I've not used nVidia for many months though).

Is there anything in the logs that gives you a hint?

There are a few entries but they are not very detailed: [ warning] [GLib-GObject] Attempt to add property ToolsCoreService::tcs-app-ctx after class was initialised [ warning] [GLib-GObject] Attempt to add property ToolsCoreService::tcs-prop-thread-pool after class was installed [ warning] [vmtoolsd] The vmusr service needs to run inside a virtual machine.

I am using Fedora 64 bit but I have also installed the 32 bit libraries.

These games worked fine after installation. The problem appeared the first time after updating Fedora last week.

this is NVIDIA property drives , how do you install it ?

sergiomb gravatar imagesergiomb ( 2014-04-22 15:58:26 -0500 )edit

I use yum for installing/updating both NVIDIA drivers and the kernel packages (kmod-nvidia-...). But my hardware configuration has not been changed for about 2 years. So the only difference is the fedora update (through yum). Maybe an incompatibility with the actual version of the NVIDIA driver or the kernel modules?

if you use kmod-nvidia- (rpmfusion) packages and please report it on ahttps://bugzilla.rpmfusion.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=Fedora

please read this before http://rpmfusion.org/ReportingBugs
