I'm aware of the CUPS issue that caused shutdowns to hang and that is been fixed. But every time I shut my system down I end up have to reach for the reset button (or hold power in to turn it off). The console output is simply a blinking cursor and the keyboard doesn't respond but the lights are on.

I'm running the latest updates on desktop workstation. The system is dual boot with Windows 7 and all the partitions for the system are on a RAID1 device. I haven't had a problem like this before with any distro. Power management is working e.g. I can sleep the machine and it comes back, displays turn off and come back on etc etc.

EDIT: I should also not that restart works as expect its just on shutdown in locks up.

Any one else having similar problems?

Have you tried modifying the runlevel down to multi-user.target (systemctl isolate multi-user.target) and then shutting down? If that fails to help, try working in rescue.target. If you notice that you can successfully shut the system down in either of these lower runlevels, you'll know the issue is with some software operating at one of the higher runlevels and not the one in which the shutdown is successful.
