I've recently shifted from Ubuntu based Linux to Fedora 20. It works better for me!

That said, I have moderate skills with Linux in general.

I am adding an HP Envy 5530 Printer (wifi) to a Fedora 20 installation on a 64 bit laptop.

To install the printer, I followed the instructions found at the hpopensource website. It went fairly smoothly until I got to the part where you need to make SELinux "passive". That apparently didn't run....

Upon completing the install, I had trouble with getting the printer to work because of the SELinux issue. So, the HP software told me to uninstall the printer to resolve the problem. This is where it asked me for the user id and password. I'm assuming this means the user id and password for the Fedora laptop installation?

That is where I'm currently stuck. Can't come up with a user id it likes. Where or how would I find this? Or should I complete uninstall and try again? And if that, how would I actually do that? Software manager doesn't give me the option to do that>...

Any thoughts or ideas are great appreciated!! Thank You!!

Sincerely, Rick

Does GUI-way installation from "Settings->Printers" of the printer fails - what are the errors? See . If this does not work - first run in a terminal: getenforce - this tells you the SELinux mode. To temporarily disable SELinux do: su -c "setenforce 0" (you need root password for that). Diagnose SELinux problems with setroubleshoot (see ) . Do not disable SELinux permenently (if you really have to do that see )

This is what I did to make my hp printer working

You might wanna uninstall all the packages that you already installed by following the instructions on the hp opensouce website. Then install the below packages

yum install hplip.x86_64
yum install hplip-gui.x86_64
yumm install system-config-users

Once installation is complete, open "User & Groups". Go to the users tab. Select your user, and click on properties. Go to the group tab in the user properties window and look for the group "lp" and add the check mark to it and press okay. Open the "HP image manager" > Add device. Login as root & root_password. Finally deselect hp fax and save. You can print a test page by the command hp-testpage
