Why won't Nautilus show thumbnails of GIF images?

Running Fedora 20, Nautilus does not show thumbnails of any GIF images. All other image formats do appear to show thumbnails.

Is there a missing package or plugin or something? Should I use a different file browser?

In my Fedora 20, thumbnails of GIF images (even animated) are shown correctly. I don't have any idea about what's going on with your system, but what happens if you remove ~/.cache/thumbnails and open Nautilus again?

Removing that folder does not fix the problem. After doing so, browsing to a folder that contains any GIF produces several PNGs in .cache/thumbnails/fail/gnome-thumbnail-factory.

GIF thumbnails also do not show on a fresh install of F20 on a Virtualbox VM, which in addition to your testimony that it does work for you, makes me think there is a package I am missing.
