Since 29 Jan 2014 lightworks has been released for Linux. Official Linux packages can be found at the page.

You will find the .rpm package on the Official download site.

At this time is available for 64bit Fedora only. Regardless of the distribution requirements (Fedora 18,19), I have installed it in my system (Fedora 20) and it works as it should.

Lightworks has both free and paid versions. The difference between them are some features that are disabled in the free version. But both versions need a registration, so register first. (you have to create an account) or you can register after (you will see the prompt registration box).

So, download the .rpm package and save it. By default it will go in to the Downloads directory.

Then enable the rpm fusion repository, both free and non-free (run the following command as one command, not matter if appears here as three lines)

su -c 'yum localinstall --nogpgcheck$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm$(rpm -E %fedora).noarch.rpm'

A package that is provided by the rpm fusion non-free repository is needed for Lightworks to work properly.

Install the required package ..

sudo yum install libCg

and install lightworks after

sudo yum install ~/Downloads/lwks-11.5-amd64.rpm

yum will resolve any required dependencies.

After the installation finish, you are ready to run Lightworks.

Be aware of some things:

Despite the name, lightworks has a very high system requirements in order to work without problems.

Recommended Specification:

Chipset: Intel i7 chipset or faster, fast AMD chipset

Memory: 3GB RAM or higher

Screen: Two high-resolution displays (1920 x1080) or above

Graphics card: PCI Express graphics card (NVIDIA or ATI) with 1GB or higher and support for OpenGL

Storage: Separate media and system drives (these can be internal or external as long as the the interface is suitably fast: eSATA Firewire 800).

Sound: Compatible sound card and an audio monitoring system

System drive: 200MB Disk space for Lightworks installation

Internet: Internet connection for activating Lightworks (first time only)

Also the source code is not yet available (so until now it considered as a closed source program) there are plans for a source release in future (I don't know when).
