I'm using Fedora 20 and the printer is connected via WLAN The printer is found and installed as generic text only printer and doesn't print.

How can I install this printer as a full supported printer?

To install the printer I followed these steps: 1. Downloading the drivers - LPR driver (Release date 2013.Mar.28) - cupswrapper driver (Release date 2013.Mar.28) 2. Restart OS 3. Open the CUSP administration page http://localhost:631/printers as system administrator 4. Change the connection mode to the correct port (Standard installation is USB) 5. That's all

I'm not sure whether I forgot steps I did. But what I did is discribed in the version of the brother installation guide: Brother installation guide

Try to install the driver from Official Brother site. It has an .rpm package driver available and its release date is 2013.Mar.28. I would install lpr driver first.

After the installation restart the printer (maybe the OS too) and see if it is working.

Driver for the specific model can be found here → HL-3140CW Linux driver

Thank you Nik Th for the hint with the brother Web page. After installing the two .rpm files the printer didn't work. Reason was that the standard installation from Brother obviously install the printer as connected via USB. After reading the Brother help file I could use the cusp Web page and change to Network

Installation of downloaded Brother printer drivers is not really user friendly

But the good thing is - it works

@frsh : You can add a separate answer then, describe how you did it and mark your answer as the correct one. That way, will be helpful for others in future (with the same problem).
