Hi all,

I reinstalled Fedora this week, installed deja dup and each time it runs not I get the error message "Backup Failed: Another backup operation is already running".

I did some Googling and found a suggestion to run the command [ps aux | grep deja-dup] which gives the following output;

keith 1829 0.0 0.0 565084 3268 ? Sl 20:29 0:00 /usr/libexec/deja-dup/deja-dup-monitor

keith 3115 5.5 0.6 861980 24576 ? SNLl 20:31 1:04 deja-dup --backup --auto

keith 3651 0.3 2.5 2430640 102504 ? Sl 20:43 0:01 yelp help:deja-dup

keith 4338 0.0 0.0 112668 984 pts/0 S+ 20:51 0:00 grep --color=auto deja-dup

Any suggestions what to try next to help solve the issue? Thanks in advance.

You’re close. grep deja instead, and you’ll find /usr/bin/duplicity started by GNOME Backup (formerly Déjà-Dup). Backup is really just a front-end for duplicity. Anyhow, you must wait for the backup to finish before you can start a new backup operation.

If you’ve enabled automatically scheduled backups then you may have a backup process running in the background; which would result in the described error. This isn’t really a problem, but just a poor user-experience.

This question was asked (and forgotten) almost three years ago about a Fedora version that must be long past EoL by now. Closing.
