I really hoped the kickstart-bugs would have been fixed in Fedora 20 beta, or am I doing someting wrong? Im getting the infamous "/dev/root does not exist"-error when trying a kickstart installation. (afraid I have too low karma to post screenshot of the complete error message). This error is also reported in the Bugzilla report 963003 among others. (wasn't allowed to publish links either...)

I have created an .iso with my own kickstart-file using the anaconda-ks.cfg as template. I've tried this both in a WMware environment and with dedicated hw, same result.

When I boot from the .iso and reach the boot loader I tried boot using both:

  • vmlinuz initrd=initrd.img inst.stage2=hd:LABEL=Fedora\x2020\x20i386 inst.ks=cdrom::/ks.cfg

or pressing escape and typing

  • linux ks=cdrom:/dev/sr0:/ks.cfg

  • linux ks=cdrom::/ks.cfg

But it doesn't matter which method I use. And the ks.cfg-file is beeing read and used, because (as shown in the s.s.) if I have a syntax error in the ks.cfg-file the installation process warns me about it. So the kickstart file is being read but the unattended installation won't initiate. Any tips or pointers would be much appreciated! Thanx in advance.

Please pastebin whole kickstart file, also there is a kickstart validator available called "ksvalidator". use that.

The kickstart file doesn't seem to matter, even if I make no changes and use the ks file the system generates after an installation the "new" installation iso fails with the same error message. Also, if there's a syntax error of some sort i the kickstart file the boot process tells me and the boot process halts. Where can I find ksvalidator? It doesn't seem to be included in Fedora 20 beta.
