Fedora 16 is long past EOL, as is Fedora 17. Is there a reason that you're using an obsolete version rather than the two supported versions, Fedora 18 or 19?

It doesn't matter what DE you're using. The version of software you're using is ancient in Fedora terms now. Please use a newer release as @sideburns suggests.

Also, Gnome3 in Fedora 16 was an early release which was only supposed to be a demo version. The latest versions 3.10 and 3.11 are quite great to use.

i have managed to fix the issue. seems to an issue with a mysql service that i had granted access to. Well about the upgradation, my company hasnt allowed me to upgrade, i was using PuTty to use Linux, and got this only on request.

You have my sympathy. Maybe if you explain that there are no more updates for F 16, even for urgent security issues they might reconsider their decision. Unless, of course, they don't consider it important to keep their databases secure, in which case, I'd suggest that you start swimming before the ship starts sinking.
