I'm trying to build a custom kernel on FC19. Since I'm changing the kernel's name I need also to build the firmware kernel RPM. I followed the instructions, but the firmware kernel RPM is not built. Can anyone advise please ? Thanks, Yoav.

This looks like a documentation bug. I built using the instructions for generating firmware, and, as described above, no firmware rpm was generated, although the build completed successfully. I did the install as documented, with the exception that I didn't try to install the non-existent firmware rpm. (Tangentially, the kernel header install issued many failures complaining about header file conflicts.) I rebooted anyway and voila! there was my kernel in the grub menu, and my kernel booted fine. I'm not sure if the firmware build is a noop or not, but the system will boot a renamed kernel without explicitly installing the documemted but not generated firmware file.

I tried to do the same, that is to install just the kernel, kernel-headers and kernel-devel packages, however I receive the following error:

error: Failed dependencies: linux-firmware >= 20130724-29.git31f6b30 is needed by kernel-3.12.8-200.myver.fc19.i686

How can I fix this? I built with '--with firmware' option but no kernel-firmware RPM was created.

Solved by using yum install linux-firmware!
