Bumbleebee reports "Cannot access secondary GPU"

I'm trying to get bumblebee to work on my new laptop (ASUS Q550LF, Nvidia Geforce 745M) , but I'm having some issues and I hope someone here might be able to help me troubleshoot.

I've followed the instructions in the Fedora Wiki up to the point of testing optirun (not going to bother with primus until I get optirun working).

If I issue any command using optimus, e.g. 'optirun glxgears -info', 'optirun glxspheres', etc. I get output such as the following:

@lnxslck Thanks for the suggestions. To my knowledge, there isn't an nvidia-current in the repo linked on the Fedora wiki page for bumblebee: just bbswitch, bumblebee, and primus and bumblebee-nvidia in the nonfree repo. Nonetheless, I tried removing bumblebee and bumblebee-nvidia and re-installing, no change in status even after rebooting.

Also, I'm not using grub on this system. I'll look into passing acpi=force into my boot options, though. I'll try the suggestion of a skeleton xorg.conf file.

EDIT: I've gone through each of the steps you listed out, no dice. I'm getting the same error.

I reported this as an issue on the github page for the bumblebee project. The feedback I got from there seems to indicate that my issue is related to bug 60829 on the kernel bugzilla tracker. I'll look into either building one of the release candidates for 3.12 or I'll wait for it to hit the stable repos and test again.

You can try this solution, based on a solution for Ubuntu that should work on Fedora:

  1. Uninstall bumblebee, bumble-nvidia, nvidia-current
  2. Reinstall clean versions of the above packages
  3. Create a skeleton xorg.conf file in /etc/X11/

  1. Force ACPI on by editing /etc/default/grub and then running update-grub Code:

Answering my own question.

After filing a bug report with the Bumblebee project, I was told my issue is related to kernel bug 60829, which has a fix in the mainline 3.12 kernel.

With this information, I took the following steps to resolve the issue:

1 . Install the RPM Development Tools:

# yum groupinstall "RPM Development Tools"

2 . Check for the latest rawhide kernel build:

# koji latest-build rawhide kernel

3 . Download this build:

4 . Install the packages locally:

# yum install *.rpm --skip-broken

NOTE: Try to resolve dependencies if possible. I just wanted to test this, so I opted for the --skip-broken flag - use this at your own risk

5 . Reboot and make sure to select the new kernel in your bootloader

6 . Test optirun (you may need to start an x-session manually from a virtual terminal if your login screen doesn't appear, e.g. press ctrl-alt-f2, login as your normal user, run 'startx')
