I upgraded to F19 (from F18) using fedup but afterwards Fedora only boots to emergency mode. I can boot my system using the "rescue mode" from grub though (with swap enabled).

dracut-initqueue says: "Warning /dev/mapper/hd-swap does not exist".

In the emergency shell I can see that /dev/mapper is empty (besides a 'control' device). If I run "lvm_scan" in the shell I can see that the swap lv is "inactive".

There is no /etc/fstab in emergency mode, just an /etc/fstab.empty.

With manual intervention I can get the system to boot using:

lvm vgchange -ay
systemctl default

How can I get my system up&running again?

Turned out the problem was that lvm was disabled via the kernel command line. I don't know why the upgrade process disabled it/did not handle my setup correctly.

Here's how I figured it out:

I checked the logs ("journalctl") and noticed a line like this "dract-cmdline: rd.lvm=0: removing LVM activation". In /etc/grub2/grub.cfg I saw that "rd.lvm=0" was set and that setting probably came from /etc/default/grub ("GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=...").

So I modified the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX to use "rd.lvm=1", ran "grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg" and rebooted. Problem solved.

Btw: If you're upgrading I advise also to read the grub2 page in the Fedora wiki (can't post links here currently due to missing karma).

Hey Felix I'm a bit new to Fedora and I was just wondering how you did what you did to fix it. If you can put up instructions that would be very much appreciated.

actually I wrote everything I did in my answer above. Btw: ask.fedoraproject.org works best if you don't use it like a forum software but more like StackOverflow (do not ask in others questions and use "comments" instead of "answers").
