To put it simply, I want to be able to play Go using KGS or the Cgoban3 client... I am using fedora because Ubuntu did not fit well with me. I am continually told that I need to use a java plug-in or install something from java, but HOW!!!!!???? Will someone please help me, because I am about to go back to windows, despite the fact that I hate it, because ALL linux distributions are difficult to use, and the support is frustratingly lax. I am new to linux, and do not know much. In answering this question, please answer as if you were talking to a linux idiot, because you are.

All that is needed is installing Java plugin. As root, execute this command in a terminal

yum install icedtea-web

Completely quit firefox and reopen and when you go to KGS server, it will ask you permission to run the applet. Permit the applet and you should be good to go!

Hope this helps.

Hi, I'm also new on linux and in go to, but after a few hours I finally could install CGoban on fedora 28, this is a old post but helps me to install it, thank you nonamedotc for your response.

I could open the .jar archive after installing icedtea-web, but then I want to make an excutable icon, so finally I found this really usefull project on GitHub that let me make an excutable via a .jar archive, I let you here the link and hope be usefull for someone.
