hi guys

I'm new to fedora. I'm pasting this question after lots of searching. Once I start fedora, for the next 2-3 seconds the GUI looks fine, until I click any place like "Activities" or hit Start button.

I searched all over and figure out someone else having a similar issue, but in his/her case only images were not being displayed, the solution was to update/refresh the mimecache, which I did too, and it solved the icons/graphics issue, but all text still distorted (either words aren't proper) or no words.

Soon after some time the icons again disappeared.

I then tried install KDE using : yum install @kde-desktop and did a reboot, but it never asked me which DE to use in my login.

I'm writing this question from another machine, please help. I'll also be posting a few pics to better explain the complete distortation of all images, text, icons on the fedora desktop.

One more strange thing, if someone I manage to start a program then the GUI/window of that program is perfect, with all icons, menus & other text/image items, but the normal OS elements like the side-bar showing icons, the activities, the time on top-center are all either not visible, or completely gone, or only a part is visible.

Anyways, thanks in advance for any help.

One of my friends told me about the history command then I started removing things and after removing wine, mysql and qtwine the fedora was back with GUI and all icons and proper text. I just tested for more than 15-20 minutes with few reboots to confirm before writing this as an answer.

IMHO qtwine installation is what corrupted the GUI.

Hey there,

i am facing the same problem. Yesterday i installed gimp and after the installation finished the button texts have been gone. Also most of the icons disappeared.

I have checked if wine, mysql and qtwine is also installed but i do not see one of these packages on my system. So it is not related to theses packages for 100%.

So does anybody know how to deal with that issue?

Kind regards, maddin0815

Simply running "# yum -y update" solved the problem for me. Maybe you can try this...
