Installing Firefox Beta

(I'm using a new installation of Fedora 19 x64, the Korora remix, if that helps.)

Hi, I'm interested in running the beta version of Firefox, but I'm having some issues. I understand Mozilla doesn't generate RPMs for beta, but I'm not quite sure what I'm supposed to do after downloading the tarball, and I can't find any instructions in the archive or on the website... I don't see any make files, so I'm not sure how I'd compile it, but even after making sure everything is set to be executable, running firefox, firefox-bin, and inside the decompressed folder don't do anything.

~Downloads/firefox $ ./firefox
Failed to execute process './firefox'. Reason:
The file './firefox' does not exist or could not be executed.
~Downloads/firefox $ ./firefox-bin
Failed to execute process './firefox-bin'. Reason:
The file './firefox-bin' does not exist or could not be executed.
~Downloads/firefox $ ./ Cannot execute .

You said that you are using Fedora x64. The default download option at Mozilla's page is for Firefox 32 bits. Have you downloaded the correct package?

I would have liked a way to just install it like normal from DNF or the software center, but this is the best way that I was able to figure out how to do it.

Firefox Beta still doesn't have an installer on Fedora, but you can download a static executable here --

Or get the Developer Edition here --

Make sure you're clicking the button that doesn't say "Android".

Just unpack the tarball, open the folder, and double-click on firefox.

To add it to your applications menu, take a look at the Desktop file spec. Or, this blog post explains the specification in friendlier terms; it's a little old, but is still accurate as far as I can tell. The .desktop file should go in ~/.local/share/applications/

That's what I would have expected too, but there actually is no README, or INSTALL.txt, or anything. The most promising looking thing I can find in the tarball is install.rdf, and that turns out to be just a bunch of XML.
