How can I update Firefox from 18 to 22? I need to use a website that's requiring I update to it, but the repo doesn't have it, and I get a 'Could not find the Mozilla runtime' error if I try to manually update the files. What can I do?

Note: I accepted an answer, as a comment had some advice on how to update the software, which was my actual question. I don't accept the idea that you need to update your distro version to get a single component application updated, but that does seem like the simplest solution.

Which version of Fedora are you running on your system?

What's the output of 'yum update firefox'?

'No Packages marked for Update' is my result. I'm Fedora release 16 (Verne), according to /etc/redhat-release.

Of course there aren't any updates. Fedora 16 is past End of Life and there will never ever again be any updates for it, including for security.

Fedora 18 and 19 (can't speak for Fedora 17 it is EOL soon anyway) have Firefox 21.0 in the repositories.

Just run a

sudo yum update

to update your packages. Firefox 22 was just released. I would give it a couple days before it is nicely packaged in the repositories.

I'm on Fedora 16. The repo is up to date (sudo yum update has no updates, still on FF 18). The problem is that I need a more recent version of Firefox, but I can't rely upon the standard repo to provide that.

Fedora 16 is long EOL. I'd recommend you update to Fedora 18 or Fedora 19 which releases in a week. Fedora 16 will receive no updates at all. You will have to use the binaries that mozilla releases to use later versions of Firefox.

Despite F16 is EOL and that I strongly recommend to update to F >= 18, see http://blog.famillecollet.com/post/2013/06/26/Firefox-22-en

F19 has firefox 22 now so you can either upgrade, or your only other option would be to manually download it from mozilla

What it will do is update to the most recent version in the F 16 repo, which he already has. He might be able to upgrade by downloading the current release from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/products/download.html?product=firefox-22.0&os=linux&lang=en-US and installing it, but I don't know if it will install or work on something that old.
