A small prequel: In Fedora 18, tried to recover partitions on a USB-stick with gparted (0.14.1), (Device-attempt data rescue) gparted spawns me this error: Command gpart was not found This feature uses gpart. Please install gpart and try again. So I tried installing gpart, but it appears not available:

[root@cal-26 ~]# yum provides gpart
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
No Matches found
[root@cal-26 ~]# yum search all gpart
Loaded plugins: langpacks, presto, refresh-packagekit
=============================================================== Matched: gpart ===============================================================
gparted.x86_64 : Gnome Partition Editor
svgpart.x86_64 : SVG KPart
pgp-tools.x86_64 : Collection of several utilities related to OpenPGP
[root@cal-26 ~]#

Nevertheless the package should be available

Seeing the above link I would have expected to be available in the standard repo for fedora, defined in

by mirrorlist=$releasever&arch=$basearch

Seems not the case?

I've run into this too. It looks like the package is only for 32 bit systems (spec file line 20) If you look at one of the builds, you'll see that it's only built for the i686 arch.

I'll mail the maintainers to ask why this is so. In the mean time, please use testdisk to recover your partition table. It works really well.

sudo yum install testdisk

Here's a post on how to use it:

PS: I'm updating the question title to be more specific to the gpart package

EDIT: I've talked to the maintainer and he's updated the spec in rawhide to also include an x86_64 build (koji#5512626). If you'd like it to be available for Fedora 19/18, please file a bug at against the gpart component.

Thanks Francisco, haven't checked testdisk yet, but thank you for explaining and giving the options.
