How can I move the /home folder into a new partition after I have installed Fedora 17?

Please advice,

I think this should be simple enough:

  1. Create the new partition
  2. Copy all your files over
  3. Change the entry in fstab to point the /home to the new partition you want

You might have to correct permissions to get your desktop working properly. This will include file permissions, ownership (user and group), and selinux contexts.

Please read the following manuals thoroughly before proceeding:

man chown
man restorecon
man fstab
man rsync
man cp

Lastly, always have your data backed up! I'd suggest you only delete the original home partition after you've successfully migrated to the new one.
