how to install pack command in fedora 17

To decompress what? yum whatprovides '*/pack' gives me some results, but I'm not sure if they're what you're looking for.

see i want to work with pack command to compress file or directory. there are gzip,gunzip etc commands for that but i have to use only "pack" command. i searched the rpm for "pack" command but it is not available.

u can see the pack command working by the below link

It certainly isn't in the repository. Are you sure it isn't obsolete? Are you referring a book or something?

Pack is now deprecated, as you can read here on the wiki article. That being said, the article also says that gzip supports handling pack files. Please read the gzip documentation for more information.

yes i had a program to compress file using "pack" command ..... and you are right that was not available in the repository....... but i downloaded rpm file of that command ...... and that is working thank you for wiki link .......
