FC 18 lacks poweroff command

I am running on HP ProBook 4520s laptop.

Can you clarify what command you're referring to? Are you referring to poweroff in the terminal? Are you referring to the poweroff option in Gnome as @Bucic has assumed below? I see the bash tag, so I think you're referring to the terminal command. More information would be helpful.

Latest Gnome Shell versions include power off command. Make sure you've updated your system through Software > Check for updates.

In older versions of Gnome Shell just hold down Alt while in the top-right menu (click on your user name).

In Fedora 18 to turn off the computer from the console, you can use any of these three commands:

# poweroff
# halt
# shutdown now
