Hi I'm having a problem with running Java applets,

If I go to a site that needs java ie. then I can see "Applet Started" in the bottom corner of firefox status bar the applet never starts and I don't get the familiar java loading page.

In chromium I get a warning saying "Icedtea was blocked because it is out of date" I get the option to "Run this time" if clicked nothing happens or "Update Plugin" if clicked I get sent to the icedtea wiki page.

I'm on a fairly new installation of Fedora 18 and I have icedtea-web.x86_64 1.3.13.fc18 installed.

I know I could download the oracle version and install it but I don't really want to have to go outside of the official repo's as I like to get all the security updates from fedora.

Is there anyting I can do to get this working. Thanks.

Did you confirm whether Java is working here?

This was not a problem with all applets as I first though, this was simply that does not work with openjdk icedtea at the moment it seems it was broken in 1.2.1 there is a bug report available by googling " openjdk" as I cannot post links.

The answer for me at least was to install the oracle version of java.
