Feature Recommendation: Lock to Wireless Connection

Every once in awhile, my wireless router acts up, and it won't let my Fedora 18 laptop connect to it. Fedora 18 will then try the next available wireless connection (one of my neighbor's unsecured wireless connections). I don't want my laptop to connect to an unknown router...EVER. A feature should be added to Fedora that allows the user to say "only connect to this trusted connection". I would like to lock my Fedora 18 install so that it will only try to connect to my router. If I go out want to use public wife, I should then be able to "unlock" it. It would be cool if the Wifi system tray icon would display a lock icon when the wifi was "pinned" or "locked" to a specific connection. The user could then click on the lock icon to disable or enable the lock feature.

Then if I explicitly want to connect to another connection, I can give the system permission to do so, but it should never do so automatically. Unless I am missing something, it does not seem that this is currently possible. Can it please be added as a feature in a future version of Fedora?

I get what you are saying, the current way to do that is to click on the network settings menu item under the network applet and then click on the network you don't want it to browse to and select "Forget this network" in the bottom right of that Window. This way that network will never failover to this other SSID.

Hi,

While some developers might take a look at the forums from time to time, this isn't really the place to file RFEs. I'd suggest you file it at the upstream bugtracker where the developers would see it and give it more attention. You could even discuss the feature with them and help plan it's implementation.

At the current time, I see no way of preventing NetworkManager from connecting to the unsecured network. Maybe a "Network blacklist" or "Never connect to unsecured networks automatically" feature would be a good addition.
