Hi, I'm running Fedora 18 and empathy-3.6.3-2. I no longer have two-step authentication with Google so it's just a straight password to type in. About 80% of the time my authentication fails when I pull up empathy. I keep trying to re-authenticate, but it keeps failing. The credentials are correct since 20% of the time it does connect. Does it have anything to do with a keyring or is there a firewall setting I need to tweak?

Just FYI, it's working for me out of the box. There is a way to access the empathy debug logs that might shed some light on your issue. https://live.gnome.org/Empathy/Debugging . If you do find a solution, be sure to answer your own question!

Also, are you configuring the google account with "Gnome Online Accounts"? or just in Empathy itself? Mine worked setting it up using just the empathy settings

I use gnome online accounts and that seems to work fine too.
