Fedora 29 recognizes HP Deskjet 3700 (printer + scanner) but doesn't scan

I was used to regular Fedora and everything uses to work-out very well, but then I decided to try Silverblue (Fedora 29), it seems to recognizes HP Deskjet as a printer and as a scanner, but Scanlite (Nightly) doesn't recognize any scan and VueScan although recognizes, just doesn't work. Is there any way to fix it?

Yes, I used to do it in "ordinary" fedora... But I didn't find out how to install hplip in Silverblue... Thanks for the answer anyway... "How to install HPLIP in Silverblue" might fit better as a title of this post... Let's wait a little more to see if anyone post some other idea... Thanks for the answer!

Edit: sorry, my response is about "ordinary" Fedora, not Silverblue, and the problem you describe can be Silverblue-specific. I'll leave it for now for a small chance it can help you to troubleshoot the matter.

@Otavio, I can't say for sure about Deskjet 3700 model specifically, but:

usually to get HP printers/MFU's working you need to add them using HPLIP software. Many of them need proprietary plugins to work, hplip takes care about all this for you.

hplip libraries are installed in Fedora by default (and maybe supposed to do all the work required behind the scenes without the gui part), but the way I always do it is with the use of hplip-gui:

sudo dnf install hplip-gui

Then using GUI you add your device, program will tell you if it needs special plugin and will install it.

After this printing and scanning works for me -- from any program, not only from hplip-gui specifically.

There were couple of instances with some versions of hplip-gui (in about 5-7 years I've used it on Fedora) when plugin installation failed, but (1) the program told me about that so I was able to troubleshoot the problem, and (2) the bugs with hplip were fixed after some time.

Hope this helps.
